If you’ve been around YouTube long enough, the name Chonunmigooksaram (translation: “I’m an American person”) might ring a bell.

Born May 16, 1989, in Illinois but raised in Florida, Megan Bowen—now better known as Megan Moon—was one of the first foreign creators to really pop in South Korea. After graduating from the University of Central Florida, she packed her bags and moved to Korea in 2012 to teach English, not knowing she was about to become a full-on expat influencer blueprint.

The YouTube Glow-Up

Megan launched her channel in December 2010, but it wasn’t until her Korean adventures that she went viral. She vlogged everything: the culture shock, her quirky take on Korean daily life, and K-Pop-inspired trends. By 2016, she’d passed 500K subscribers, making her one of the most recognizable Black female creators in the Korea expat scene.

In 2017, she dropped the tongue-twister username and rebranded to simply Megan Bowen. Smart move, since by then she was landing gigs like Living English on EBSe and doing appearances on Arirang TV’s B Cruze.

As of 2025, she’s holding steady with 895K subscribers and 169M+ views, earning anywhere from $500-$3K a month according to Social Blade estimates.

TV Fame: “Date in Paradise”

Megan didn’t just stay on YouTube. She crossed into Korean TV. One of her most memorable moments was appearing on the blind dating reality show “Date in Paradise”, where foreign women met Korean men in a social experiment-style setting.

Her witty, straightforward personality made her a standout, and fans still mention it as a “throwback era” highlight of her career.

K-Beauty & Fashion Mogul

Even at the height of her YouTube fame, Megan didn’t just rely on ad revenue. To supplement her income, she launched a cross-border e-commerce business, a savvy move that leveraged her knowledge of Korean trends and her international audience.

Through her online store, Megan curates Korean beauty products, skincare, and fashion items and ships them worldwide. Her reach spans Anglo-Saxon countries like the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., as well as Latin America, tapping into the global K-wave demand.

It’s a clever play: Megan has firsthand credibility, having lived in Korea for years and being fluent in the language, so she can spot products that will resonate internationally. She combines that expertise with her influencer savvy, a double whammy that keeps her relevant even when she posts less on YouTube.

Viral Moment: “Mamma Me Time”

Megan Moon flexed her creative chops with “Mamma Me Time,” which a playful, parody-style track that quickly caught fire among fans.

Fans loved the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and clips of her performing or lip-syncing spread across social media, giving her content a second life outside YouTube vlogs.

It also showcased her ability to tap into Hallyu culture, blending K-pop-style production with comedic storytelling.

Sugar Daddy Allegations

Before she was Megan Moon, she had allegations that she was involved with a (or multiple) sugar daddies to maintain the lifestyle she was seen parading on social media. Back in her peak influencer era, she was flaunting designer bags, high-end skincare, and a sudden glow-up that had people asking: how exactly was she funding all this?

Old forums talk about her supposed meet-ups with sugar daddies, but of course, it was all kept on the down low. And if you know Korea, you know why: appearance, especially how one presents themselves in society, is everything. The concept of “saving face” is woven into the culture, which is exactly why you’ll never catch Korean celebrities slipping up publicly.

Those that do… well, you know what happens: cancellations and exile from the industry. Megan never addressed the sugar daddy rumors head-on, which only fanned the flames. To this day, the chatter resurfaces whenever her name pops up online, cementing her spot in the expat gossip hall of fame.

Cosmetic Confessions: The Boob Job Glow-Up

Megan’s openness about her boob job was another bold move that set her apart. In a culture where cosmetic procedures are common but often private, she chose transparency over secrecy, discussing her surgery with humor and honesty.

This sparked conversations among fans and followers about body image, beauty standards, and confidence in Korea’s appearance-obsessed society. Some applauded her for breaking the taboo and embracing her choices publicly, while others criticized her for oversharing or “promoting vanity.”

Husband & Family Life: Moon Seong Yeong

Megan Moon recently tied the knot with Moon Seong Yeong, sharing stunning photos from their traditional Korean wedding on Instagram that had fans swooning. The couple’s ceremony blended classic Korean customs with Megan’s signature personality, giving fans a glimpse into a fairytale-worthy moment straight out of a K-drama.

Their marriage isn’t just about the aesthetics. It represents a new chapter for Megan, one where family life takes center stage. Since saying “I do,” Megan has embraced motherhood with the birth of twins, Rubin and Luna, in 2022, balancing life as a content creator, entrepreneur, and mom.

Fans have been loving the insight into her family life, seeing a softer, more grounded side of the influencer they once knew for vlogs, viral songs, and reality TV stunts. Even if her YouTube uploads have slowed, her personal journey keeps her relevant and keeps fans invested in her story.

Panelist Spotlight: Ramyun & Chill

In 2022, Megan made yet another splash when she joined the panel of Ramyun & Chill, DKDKTV’s ambitious international dating show. The concept? Five Korean men and five foreign women spending four days together at the very same lakeside villa where BTS once filmed In the Soop. Megan’s quick wit and candid commentary made her stand out as a panelist, offering unfiltered takes on love, culture clashes, and awkward flirting.

DKDKTV even rolled out a YouTube teaser introducing the panelists, where Megan’s inclusion had longtime fans buzzing. For viewers who had followed her journey from YouTuber to musician to bikini model trainee, seeing her pop up on a buzzy dating show felt like a reminder that she still knew how to stay relevant, even if her main channel slowed down.

Megan, with her expat wisdom, was the perfect commentator. Fans were hyped… until the show fizzled and didn’t really make it past Kickstarter. Still, Megan grabbed the buzz and kept her name in the mix.

The Slow Fade: Did She Fall Off?

While Megan was once a fixture in the Korea YouTube world, her uploads slowed, and her presence in the expat content creator scene started to fade. Some fans say she struggled to keep up with newer, trendier influencers. Others think her shift into business and personal life took priority.

Her channel still has a loyal subscriber base, but she’s no longer the algorithm’s favorite. And for younger fans discovering Korea creators in 2025, her name isn’t always top of mind.
