If you thought love in K-dramas was intense, wait until you see Chain Reaction (체인리액션)! First premiered on September 16, 2022, on Coupang Play, this South Korean dating reality show throws eight singles: four guys, four girls into a tropical Saipan paradise…and then literally chains them together for 10 days straight.

Yes, you read that right. No escaping, no personal space, just 240 hours of forced romance, emotional breakdowns, and maybe even scandalous sparks flying.

But course, my attention was immediately drawn to the only foreigner on the cast: Lisa Beidle (@_beidle). It’s rare to see a foreigner on Korean-focused reality dating shows, so naturally, I had to dig a little deeper into her story. Fair warning: spoilers ahead about the drama, the romances, and who ends up with who!

Who is Lisa Beidle?

Honestly, I could not find much about her online. She is a model signed to the modeling agency LSACMODEL (엘삭).

It also appears she may have Korean heritage but that is unconfirmed. She was born in 1992, making her currently 33 years old.

Lisa Beidle is best known for being Uneducated Kid’s muse, appearing as his lover in his MV Homeschooling.

Before we get to her story, let’s find out what Chain Reaction is all about!

Meet the Hosts Who Brought the Tea

The show’s dream team isn’t shy about stirring the pot:

  • Yoo In-na – Actress and radio DJ, keeping things spicy.
  • Zico – Rapper and producer, watching the drama unfold.
  • Lee Jin-ho – Comedian/entertainment journalist, ready to roast.
  • Yujeong – Brave Girls girl group member, adding K-pop flair to the chaos.

Games, Challenges, and Chains

From daily activities to wild challenges, every moment is engineered to test the chemistry (and patience) of these love-struck singles. The chains? Both literal and metaphorical, turning every hug, argument, and stolen glance into high-stakes drama you won’t want to miss.

Where to Watch

Streaming exclusively on Coupang Play in South Korea, but international fans might need a VPN to catch all the spicy action.

Why Everyone’s Talking

The concept dives deep into emotional vulnerability and modern dating chaos. Forced proximity sparks wild connections, but some critics are side-eyeing the show, saying it teeters on emotional exploitation. Still, it’s a fresh twist on romance reality TV, perfect for anyone hungry for drama, love, and maybe a little heartbreak.

What Makes Chain Reaction Different From Other Reality Dating Shows?

For a dating reality show to really take off, it needs heart-wrenching stories that pull at viewers’ emotions. Think Transit Love 2. But finding contestants with that kind of emotional depth?

Coupang Play clearly went all out for this one. The show was filmed overseas, choosing the relatively expensive U.S. territory of Saipan, which instantly set it apart. Comparisons were inevitable to SBS’s Love is Straightforward, which shot in Da Nang, Vietnam. And the production didn’t skimp: the cast was chained together for a full 9 nights and 10 days.

Most dating reality shows barely last 4-5 nights, maybe 6-7 at most, so this was a serious investment in both time and money. The result? High-stakes romance, drama, and plenty of reasons for viewers to keep tuning in.

Lisa Beidle’s First Appearance on Chain Reaction

Lisa Beidle, then 29, made a late entrance onto Chain Reaction, but she quickly became the center of attention.

So who piqued Lisa’s interest?

Son Young-seok: The Handsome Professional Who Found Love

Son Young-seok, then 29, works in Samsung Hospital’s management support team and made quite an impression when he entered Chain Reaction as a “latecomer.” With his striking looks and perfectly maintained physique, he quickly became a hot topic among fans. Social and easygoing, he got along with almost everyone, except for the fiercely independent Lee Seung-jae, with whom clashes were inevitable.

Honestly, some might say Son Young-seok was smart to just brush off minor conflicts instead of wasting energy on someone who wasn’t a real competitor. Ultimately, he focused on what mattered most: romance. And it paid off.

Kang Kyung-woo: The Rule-Follower Who Learned to Make Amends

Kang Kyung-woo, then 28, is a brand marketer at Café Avec. His career may not seem flashy, but his presence on the show certainly made waves. Early on, he appeared a bit cold toward Choi Song-hyun, sparking debates among viewers about whether he was being rude or just honest. True to his nature, Kang Kyung-woo is selective about who he gives attention to, so those moments of detachment actually reflect his straightforward personality.

He competed for An Seung-yeon’s heart against Lee Seung-jae and Son Young-seok, and a misunderstanding about the chain rules led him to make a slip with Lisa. Because Lee Seung-jae and Son Young-seok had already linked chains with An Seung-yeon’s hands first, Kang Kyung-woo mistakenly thought it was impossible to try afterward.

As a foreigner, Lisa didn’t hold back, expressing her feelings for Son Young-seok with refreshing honesty and directness. While she briefly faced emotional turbulence due to Kang Kyung-woo’s misunderstanding, Lisa gracefully accepted his apology, which only boosted her image in the eyes of viewers.

Her confidence and charm won over audiences, and she eventually captured Son Young-seok’s heart, securing a spot as one of the show’s final couples. Fans couldn’t help but root for both her and the courageous Kang Kyung-woo along the way!

The Experimental Twist That Keeps Viewers Hooked

One of the most fascinating aspects of Chain Reaction was its experimental “social lab” vibe. Every day, lighthearted games determined which couples would be linked together, and then the chains went on, literally keeping them stuck with each other all day long. That meant even during sleep or showers, partners had to remain nearby.

This setup created unexpected situations and forced the cast to fully experience the whirlwind of emotions that young singles in their 20s feel while flirting, keeping tension and chemistry at a peak throughout the show.

Chains On-Screen, Silence Off-Screen: Lisa and Son Young-seok’s Vanishing Couple Status

On the show, Lisa was portrayed as ending up with Son Young-seok in the final couple lineup. But here’s where things get interesting: outside of Chain Reaction, there are no real traces of their romance. Neither Lisa’s Instagram (@_beidle) nor Son Young-seok’s online presence show any signs that they continued dating after filming.

No couple pics, no subtle likes, nothing. This has led fans to wonder. Was their “couple status” more for the cameras than for real life? Or did things simply fizzle out once the chains came off?

Either way, Lisa’s run on Chain Reaction turned her into one of the breakout stars of the show, proving that sometimes the most captivating storyline isn’t just about who couples up, but who leaves a lasting impression.

Lisa Beidle’s Squeaky-Clean Online Image

One thing fans quickly noticed about Lisa Beidell is just how clean her online presence is. Unlike many reality show contestants who get caught up in messy follows or shady online activity, Lisa keeps it simple. She doesn’t follow problematic figures, nor does she chase clout by following tons of celebrities. Instead, her Instagram feels polished, personal, and carefully curated, giving fans the sense that she’s not here for the drama, at least off-screen.

That said, she does follow one notable name: BLOO, Korean R&B artist.

BLOO is a South Korean rapper known for his unique fusion of hip-hop and R&B with a moody, emotional twist. He debuted in 2016 under MKIT RAIN, a label he co-founded with friends including Nafla and Loopy. BLOO skyrocketed in popularity after his 2017 track “Downtown Baby” went viral and topped the charts, cementing him as a rising star in Korea’s hip-hop scene.

His music leans into raw themes of love, heartbreak, and introspection, delivered with melancholic vocals and stylish music videos. Projects like BLOO IN WONDERLAND 2, MOON AND BACK, and most recently Fox and the City (2023) showcase his emotional storytelling and have earned him a loyal fanbase.

For Lisa to follow BLOO (and not dozens of random celebrities) speaks volumes. It suggests she gravitates toward authentic, creative figures with depth, rather than just chasing flashy fame. A small detail, but one that adds another layer to her carefully curated online image.
