So…remember when Slaylonie and Korean rapper Dbo were “just best friends”? Because apparently that phase did not last.
The friendship-to-lovers pipeline has officially entered its wedding era.
Korean rapper Dbo (디보) and American artist Slaylonie are getting married, and if you’ve been following the pair for a while, this announcement probably feels less like a shocking plot twist and more like the final episode of a storyline that has been developing in plain sight.
Dbo and Slaylonie recently posted a series of photos on Instagram, announcing their wedding date slated for November 22, 2026.
The post was captioned:
“Our Wedding Day 11.22.26 ♥︎”
And yes, the photos are giving very much already married, even though the actual wedding is still coming.
But perhaps the funniest part of the announcement was the comment section.
One commenter immediately brought up the elephant in the room:
“WHO REMEMBERS THE ‘we’re just best friends’ PHASE HERE?!! I can’t be the only one!!!”
And honestly?
No. You are absolutely not the only one.
Dbo’s comments quickly turned into a multilingual wedding reception, with Korean and English-speaking friends and fans flooding the post with congratulations.
Someone wrote:
“I been waiting for this post for yearzzzzzz.”
Another commenter celebrated the couple as:
“another Rican/Asian couple.”
Both Dbo and Slaylonie made a point of thanking her mother for taking the photos. So yes The “just best friends” era appears to be officially over.
Who Is Slaylonie?
If you know Slaylonie from Korea’s foreigner, alternative music and creative scene, you may already be familiar with her. But she’s not simply known for being Dbo’s girlfriend.
Slaylonie is an American artist and songwriter whose work falls into the alternative and underground side of hip-hop and internet-era music. She’s also been involved in the visual side of her projects, including artwork and other creative work surrounding her music.
And perhaps more importantly for this particular story, she has been involved with Korea’s hip-hop scene herself.
This is not a case of some random foreigner suddenly appearing on the arm of a Korean rapper.
Slaylonie has actually collaborated musically with Dbo and other Korean artists.
In 2023, she appeared alongside Dbo and lil asian*+ on YDG’s “It’s okay.” The song was released on September 16, 2023, with Dbo and Slaylonie both credited as lyricists.
Then, in December 2023, she appeared on Dbo’s “Walk in the Party.”
And the credits on that track are particularly interesting.
The song lists Dbo and Slaylonie as lyricists, with the credits noting that the lyrics were freestyled. Even the cover art was done by Slaylonie, and the track was recorded at Dbo’s studio.
So their connection wasn’t exactly:
Korean rapper meets foreign girl → suddenly wedding.
Their creative lives were already intertwined. Which makes the “we’re just best friends” comment even funnier.
And Then There Was Rapper Dbo
For anyone who hasn’t spent an unhealthy amount of time falling down the Korean hip-hop rabbit hole (like I have), Dbo is a Korean rapper whose real name is Shim Hyun-bo (심현보).
Born in Gyeonggi Province in 1992, Dbo has been active since the early 2010s and is associated with the Korean hip-hop crew FPL. He’s also appeared on multiple seasons of Show Me the Money, including Show Me the Money 3, Show Me the Money 777, and Show Me the Money 8.
Dbo has developed a reputation for a particularly unconventional style within Korean hip-hop. He’s not exactly the polished, cookie-cutter idol rapper archetype.
He’s very much his own thing, and that’s part of what makes his relationship with Slaylonie interesting.
Their relationship seems to exist within a very specific corner of Korea’s music world — one that is much more underground, alternative and internationally connected than the traditional K-pop celebrity ecosystem.
Now that relationship is heading to the altar.
From Music Collaborators to Husband & Wife
One of the most interesting parts of the Slaylonie-Dbo timeline is just how intertwined their creative lives have been.
As mentioned, slaylonie appeared on “Walk in the Party” in 2023, a Dbo track on which the two are credited as lyricists. The song was also recorded at Dbo’s studio, with Slaylonie handling the cover art.
In other words, there is an actual creative history here.
Whether they were really “just best friends” at some point is obviously their business.
But when your supposed “best friend” is appearing on your songs, recording at your studio, creating your cover art and eventually becoming your wife?
Girl.
Come on.
Slaylonie posted a series of photos showing off her engagement ring cheekily captioning the post, “I said no.”
Dbo & Slaylonie to Get Married in Korea
If anyone was wondering whether this was just a cute engagement-style photoshoot with no actual wedding details yet, but Slaylonie has already given us the itinerary.
The wedding is happening on November 22, 2026, in South Korea, and there’s an especially personal detail attached to the location:
They’re getting married in Dbo’s hometown.
Slaylonie shared the news on TikTok, writing:
“My mom took these photos 🤍
Our wedding day is 11.22.26 in South Korea 🤍🤍🤍
Our wedding will be @dbo’s hometown 🤍🤍🤍🤍🫧”
And apparently Slaylonie is still getting acquainted with the language.
She also admitted:
“I don’t know Korean well yet but I’m learning!”
before adding “사랑해요” — “I love you.”
But Wait… How Do They Even Communicate?
Okay, but how are these two communicating? 😂
Slaylonie admits her Korean is still a work in progress, while Dbo’s English isn’t exactly giving Oxford.
One Redditor summed up the confusion:
“She barely can say some korean words and dbo speaks terrible english. Dont know what they would have in common besides being internet weirdos tbh BUT thats not to take away if they’re happy and getting married congratulations, i hope you have a good future together.”
Damn. 😭
But hey, they clearly found a language that works for them. Slaylonie is learning Korean, they’re getting married in Dbo’s hometown, and apparently “love” is the one language neither of them needed Google Translate for.
See what other Redditors had to say in the popular r/khiphop subreddit below.
The Korean Hip-Hop Heavy Hitters Showed Up
Being my nosey self of course I went straight to the comments to see who I might recognize.
Because Dbo’s wedding announcement wasn’t just met with congratulations from random followers. Some pretty recognizable names from Korea’s hip-hop and R&B scene showed up to celebrate the couple:
Deepflow
Deepflow (딥플로우) is one of the veterans of Korea’s underground hip-hop scene.
Born Ryu Sang-goo, he has been active since the 2000s and is closely associated with Vismajor Company (VMC), the hip-hop label and crew he founded. He’s known not only as a rapper but also as a producer and major figure within Korea’s underground rap community.
Basically, if you know Korean underground hip-hop, Deepflow is one of the names you should know.
So seeing him in Dbo’s wedding comments is another reminder that this isn’t some isolated celebrity relationship.
Dbo has friends in the scene.
And they’re apparently very happy to see him get married.
YDG
YDG — Yang Dong-geun (양동근) — is one of Korea’s most distinctive entertainment figures.
He’s not only a rapper but also an actor, singer, songwriter and producer. YDG actually began his career as a child actor before becoming established as a hip-hop artist.
And his connection to this wedding is especially interesting because YDG literally has Slaylonie and Dbo on the same song.
His 2023 single “It’s okay” features Dbo, Slaylonie and lil asian*+, with Dbo and Slaylonie both receiving lyric credits.
So YDG isn’t some random famous rapper dropping a wedding emoji.
He’s part of their creative history.
Okasian
Okasian (오케이션) is a Korean-American rapper who has long been associated with Korea’s underground hip-hop scene.
Born Kim Ji-yong, also known as Alexander Kim, he was born in the United States but raised in Seoul until his teenage years. He became associated with The Cohort, the influential crew connected to artists such as Keith Ape and Bryan Chase.
He’s also worked with major names including G-Dragon, CL, Beenzino, Zion.T, BewhY, Kid Milli, Jay Park and Ugly Duck.
And considering Slaylonie’s own Korean-American/international creative positioning, Okasian is another particularly fitting name to see congratulating the couple.
Ugly Duck
Ugly Duck (어글리 덕) is a South Korean rapper and singer who has been associated with AOMG and Jay Park.
His 2016 project Scene Stealers, released with Jay Park, helped establish him more broadly within Korea’s hip-hop scene.
He’s another artist whose career is rooted in Korea’s underground hip-hop world rather than the traditional idol system.
And apparently, he’s also in Dbo’s wedding-congratulations squad.
Code Kunst
Code Kunst (코드 쿤스트) is probably one of the most recognizable names in the comments to casual Korean hip-hop fans.
Born Jo Sung-woo, Code Kunst is a major Korean producer and composer who became known for his distinctive production style. He joined HIGHGRND in 2015 before signing with AOMG in 2018.
He also appeared as a judge/producer on Show Me the Money 777, where he worked alongside Paloalto.
He later won Producer of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards in 2021.
So yes, Code Kunst casually popping into the comments to celebrate Dbo’s wedding is a pretty solid indication of the circles Dbo runs in.
Killagramz
Killagramz (킬라그램) is a Korean-American rapper born in Fullerton, California.
His real name is Lee Joon-hee, and he became more widely recognized in Korea through appearances on Show Me the Money, including Show Me the Money 5 and Show Me the Money 6. He released his debut album, Faint, in 2017.
Like Okasian, Killagramz represents another Korean-American connection within the country’s hip-hop scene.
And once again, he’s there in the comments wishing Dbo well.
Don Mills
Don Mills (던밀스) is a Korean rapper born Hwang Dong-hyun in Suwon in 1988. He first became known in Korea’s underground hip-hop scene before joining Vismajor Company (VMC), the influential crew and label founded by Deepflow. His debut album, Young Don, came out in 2014, and his aggressive, high-energy delivery quickly became part of his signature sound.
Don Mills has also appeared on Korean hip-hop television, including Show Me the Money 10 and RAP, and previously served as a rap mentor on Produce 101 Season 2.
His name is particularly relevant here because he’s part of the same VMC/underground Korean hip-hop ecosystem as several of the other artists congratulating Dbo.
Under Dbo’s wedding post, Don Mills kept it short and sweet:
“멋있어 둘다❤️❤️”
Basically: “You both look great.”
And honestly, considering the comment section was already turning into a Korean hip-hop reunion, Don Mills showing up was right on brand.
Foggyatthebottom
Foggyatthebottom is a Korean-American rapper whose real name is Yoshi Shin (신요시). Born in South Korea, he moved to Washington, D.C. as a child and later developed his career between Korean and American cultural spaces. His stage name comes from Foggy Bottom, the D.C. neighborhood.
He’s particularly interesting for this story because his music and persona are heavily connected to American hip-hop culture, while his career has developed within Korea’s hip-hop scene. He has released projects including Deep, Fairfax, Crystal City and Goosebumps, and has been active as a recording artist since 2020.
More recently, Foggyatthebottom became known to an even wider Korean audience through RAP, where he was one of the show’s winners. He has also competed on Show Me the Money 12.
And his comment to Dbo was considerably more personal than a generic celebrity congratulations:
“축하해 형🥰🥰🔥”
Translated roughly: “Congrats, hyung!”
The use of 형 (hyung) is worth noting because it’s a familiar Korean term a younger man uses toward an older male he has a close or respectful relationship with.
Not exactly a random guest list am I right?
Dbo has been active in Korean hip-hop for years, and Slaylonie has clearly been involved in the same creative ecosystem. The wedding announcement just happened to bring a whole bunch of those connections into one Instagram comment section.
Which, frankly, is exactly the kind of comment section I want to be lurking in. Wonder who we’ll see at the actual wedding of Dbo and Slaylonie.
And Now We Have to Talk About the Foreigner Thing
Here’s where this wedding gets particularly interesting for SEOUL CLOUT.
Because this isn’t the first time I’ve written about Korean celebrities getting involved with foreigners.
Earlier this year, I went down a very specific rabbit hole in my article “6 Korean Celebrities Who’ve Dated (or Married) Foreigners.”
That article looked at public examples ranging from former footballer Park Joo-ho and his Swiss wife Anna, to rapper Beenzino and German model Stefanie Michova, Song Joong-ki and British former actress Katy Louise Saunders, and several more complicated or alleged cases.
And the point of that article was NOT to scream to world “Look! Korean celebrity dates foreigner!”
The interesting part was who gets publicly acknowledged as the foreign partner.
I specifically noted that the publicly known examples I had found were overwhelmingly white foreign women, and questioned why publicly documented relationships involving Black, Latina or Middle Eastern women were so much harder to find.
Which is why Slaylonie and Dbo are worth adding to the conversation.
Dbo Might Be the First Korean Rapper to Marry a Black Woman
Dbo is Korean. Slaylonie is Black. And if we’re talking publicly known Korean rappers who have actually married a Black woman? I can’t think of another one.
Because Korean hip-hop has spent years borrowing heavily from Black American culture. The fashion, slang, hairstyles, music, aesthetics, the whole “I’m basically from the hood” performance — Korean rappers have often embraced Black American culture as part of their artistic identity.
But when it comes to their actual dating lives? Suddenly, it’s a different story. (Don’t get me started on the new rapper dating reality show Kiss or Diss).
You can have a Korean rapper rapping like he’s been through Compton, dressing like he just walked out of Atlanta, throwing around American slang and talking about how open-minded and international he is…
…and then his girlfriend looks like she was pulled directly from Gangnam Unni starter pack™.
Long dark hair. Tiny waist. Perfect makeup. Expensive Korean fashion. The whole very specifically Korean beauty ideal. Case in point:
And to be clear, there is nothing wrong with Korean women looking Korean. Obviously.
The interesting part is the disconnect between the image of cultural openness that some rappers cultivate and the extremely conventional women they ultimately seem to date.
Which is why Dbo marrying Slaylonie feels different.
Dbo is marrying a Black woman, and that’s something we rarely see publicly represented in Korea’s mainstream or underground hip-hop world.
The “Gangnam Unni” Problem
There’s always been something a little funny about the way Korean hip-hop interacts with Black American culture.
Black culture can be considered cool.
Black music can be considered cool.
Black fashion can be considered cool.
Black slang can be considered cool.
The aesthetic can be cool.
But Black women?
That’s where the fantasy can suddenly hit a wall.
And I’m not saying every Korean rapper is secretly sitting around dreaming about a Gangnam unni. Obviously, people date who they’re attracted to.
But when you repeatedly see artists heavily influenced by Black culture choosing partners who fit a very conventional Korean beauty ideal, it does make you wonder how much of that supposed “open-mindedness” actually extends beyond aesthetics.
Dbo is interesting because his relationship with Slaylonie challenges that pattern.
This Isn’t a Fetish Story Either
And before someone inevitably makes this weird: no, marrying a Black woman doesn’t automatically make Dbo some enlightened interracial-love ambassador.
We don’t know what happens inside their relationship, and we don’t need to turn Slaylonie into a diversity prop just because she’s Black and marrying a Korean man.
What makes this interesting is simply the cultural context.
Slaylonie is a Black American artist who has been embedded in Korea’s creative and hip-hop scene, and Dbo is a Korean rapper who has chosen to publicly build a life with her.
That’s different from the usual Korean celebrity/foreigner relationship story.
And considering how much Korean hip-hop has historically drawn from Black American culture, seeing an actual Black woman become the wife rather than simply the aesthetic is worth talking about.
Is Dbo Really the First?
Now, I’m going to put a tiny asterisk on this one because I am not about to make a definitive historical claim based on my own Google rabbit hole.
Dbo appears to be the first Korean rapper I can identify who has publicly announced a marriage to a Black woman.
If someone knows another Korean rapper who beat him to it, please send me the receipts.
Because if the record holds?
Dbo just made Korean hip-hop history in a way!
Anyways, congratulations to Slaylonie and Dbo! May their marriage be happy, their music collaborations continue, and may someone eventually explain exactly how long the “just best friends” era was supposed to fool us.
Because respectfully…
We saw you. 💍
